At Barkaritaville Pet Resort, the health and happiness of every pet is our top priority, which is why we want to share with you some of the precautions WE take to keep pets healthy and happy throughout the year. Then, check out what YOU can do, too!

What We Do

We clean and disinfect the surfaces. Barkaritaville never stops cleaning! Our team is trained to use the industry’s best practices for thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting enclosures, bedding, bowls, common areas, and play areas. We do this multiple times every day.

We sanitize the air. We have installed PetAirapy®, the animal care industry’s premier, study-backed UV air sanitizing equipment to help kill airborne pathogens. We also maintain proper humidity levels, air circulation, and ventilation to eliminate the spread of bacteria and viruses.

We conduct thorough pre-entry wellness checks. We do not accept any dogs who show observable signs and symptoms of respiratory illness such as runny nose, sneezing, or coughing. We also ask that pet parents do not bring their dogs who are showing any of these symptoms to our facility.

We routinely monitor. Consumption, elimination, and behavior of each pet is monitored every day and any changes are noted in the pet’s file. If we see a runny nose, hear a cough, or suspect any sort of illness, we contact the pet parents. If we are unable to reach them, we will not hesitate to seek veterinarian attention for the pet.

We require and recommend vaccinations. We require all dogs have written proof of the following: Up to date Rabies and DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo, Para-influenza); Bordetella (Canine Cough) is required a minimum of once a year; Annual intestinal parasite check; Annual Canine Influenza (CIV) Bivalent vaccine, which protects against both the identified strains (H3N8 and H3N2) of CIV, also known as Dog Flu. For cats, we require Rabies and Feline Distemper..

We use Kinn Kleanbowls. These eco-friendly bowls made from sugarcane fiber are designed to be recycled and guaranteed to eliminate 100% of germs including those that dishwashers are not hot enough to kill.

What You Can Do

Limit contact with other dogs before your dog’s stay. If you have an upcoming reservation with us, we ask that you not take your dog to a dog park, another pet care facility, or anywhere dogs come in contact with each other prior to visiting Barkaritaville. We have no way of knowing if all the dogs your dog may have encountered have been properly vaccinated and other dogs can also be infectious before symptoms are exhibited.

Stick with one facility. While we hope to always have the pleasure of providing all of your pet care needs, we encourage you to select one pet care facility as your pet’s “home-away-from-home” and avoid switching back and forth between multiple facilities as this can put all dogs at risk. Even if your pet does not become ill during this process, he or she may be exposed to illness and carry it to the other facility.

Stay up to date on all vaccinations. Try to ensure your dog is vaccinated one to two weeks before playing with other dogs. This helps prevent the spread of anything they may have been exposed to at the veterinarian’s office. It also prevents any chance of viral shedding from the vaccinations received.

Keep your dog very active. Just like humans, the extra activity helps promote and maintain a lifetime of good health and happiness for your furry family member.

It’s our privilege and joy to provide a safe and fun place for your pet to stay, play, relax, and train. Together, we keep your pet healthy and happy!
